Northampton Town set to sign former Nottingham Forest, Bristol City and Ipswich Town man

Northampton Town are set to re-sign winger Paul Anderson.

The 31-year-old is close to re-joining the League Two side on a free transfer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke on Twitter.

Anderson is a free agent after being released by Plymouth Argyle at the end of last season and has been weighing up his options since.

He played for Northampton two season ago and played 39 games in all competitions, chipping in with seven goals before moving on after a year and is now expected to make a return to Cobblers.

Anderson is an experienced winger in the Football League having racked up over 300 appearances so far in his career and could prove a useful signing for Keith Curle’s side.

He started out as a youngster at Hull City but left as a promising youngster to join Liverpool in 2005. He never played a first team game for the Reds and left to join Nottingham Forest on a permanent deal after a loan spell away at Swansea City.

Anderson played over 100 games for Forest and left in 2012 to go on and have stints in the Championship with Bristol City and Ipswich Town.
