Could Morecambe turn to former Blackpool boss?

Morecambe are in the hunt for a new manager to replace Jim Bentley.

This is the first time in eight years the Shrimps have been searching for a new boss after Bentley left for National League side AFC Fylde.

Long-serving players Barry Roche and Kevin Ellison are in caretaker charge until a permanent replacement is found. They are the front runners for the full-time job, however there are other names in the frame.

Ex-Fylde manager Dave Challinor and their former midfielder Stuart Drummond have been linked with the post so far.

Terry McPhillips, who has previously managed Blackpool, has emerged as a 4/1 candidate on SkyBet.

The 51-year-old has been available since he parted company with the Seasiders at the end of last season and could be tempted to return to management in League Two at the Globe Arena.

McPhillips spent his playing career as a forward for the likes of Halifax Town, Northampton Town, Crewe Alexandra and Nantwich Town.

He had a spell as Crewe as an academy director and youth coach before moving onto Blackburn Rovers in 2006. McPhillips held a couple of different positions at Ewood Park and worked as the assistant under Gary Bowyer.

He then followed Bowyer to Blackpool in 2016 and later became their caretaker manager in August 2018. McPhillips then got the full-time job a month later and he guided the Tangerines to a 10th place finish last season.

After leaving in June, could he return to the dugout with Morecambe now?
