Town have dropped one place to seventh in League One following today’s fixtures.

The Blues were due to host Northampton at Portman Road, however, the game was called off earlier in the week due to Town’s positive Covid-19 tests. The match has been rescheduled for Tuesday 16th February.

Charlton Athletic drew 2-2 at home to Plymouth Argyle to move ahead of the Blues on goal difference and into the final play-off place.

Lincoln thrashed Burton Albion 5-1 at Sincil Bank - having won 4-0 away at Northampton last weekend - to go top of the table ahead of Portsmouth, whose home game against Swindon was postponed, also due to positive Covid tests.

Hull City’s match at Sunderland, Doncaster’s home fixture with Accrington Stanley and Peterborough’s trip to Gillingham were similarly called off, as was the Blackpool-Rochdale game.

Town’s Tuesday match at AFC Wimbledon is also off as are the Peterborough-Charlton, Bristol Rovers-Portsmouth and Hull-Lincoln games.

The Blues are next due to be in action on Saturday 2nd January when they’re due to travel to Fleetwood, however, that fixture is also in doubt.

RobsonWark added 17:39 - Dec 26 I seem to remember when we were top of the league in January last season that PL said it was the worst position to be in the league because every team wants to beat the team at the top of the table. Well we are 7th on Boxing day Paul so you must be well chuffed with that! All the Town players must be well motivated now to go on and beat all the teams above us now. I'm expecting a league division 1 championship trophy for season 2020/21 :)

Hopefully several of our better players are over their injuries and can quickly get up to full speed in the coming weeks. We are still well in the mix.

grumpyoldman added 09:30 - Dec 27 A lot of people will agree that we are not playing well, to be seventh with the disruption caused by injuries is not bad. Despite my username I am not grumpy at moment, yes we should be doing better, yes the manager has not been great, but there is a long way to go over half the games still to be played. I have in the past seen us struggle then go on a good run surging up the table, so do not get too downhearted. Yes some will predict gloom and doom and if things go wrong will say I told you so as though they are the oracle, if they were that good at predicting things they would win the lottery every week. Nobody knows what will happen in the New Year, so enjoy time spent away from football and realise there are more important things in life.

dirtydingusmagee added 10:48 - Dec 27 we need to be top two or at least have much better gd in case plug is pulled on season like last one. OK they say it will be completed but things a have habit of changing. I still think it will end in chaos, with so many games needing to be rearranged .

Linkboy13 added 10:48 - Dec 27 No promotion unless we can sign two midfield work horses who can win the ball when we haven't got it. Even with everybody fit we are still short in that position. This time next season we will still be saying when everybody's fit what a great side we will have. We need to get rid of the crocks and sign players who can play for ninety minutes, that's the only way we will get out of this league.

heathen66 added 11:10 - Dec 27 It is not our powder puff strike force that is the issue as given any sort of service then Jackson and Norwood will score goals, Harry Kane would struggle to score with that service Watch other teams in any league, they have players in the box and balls delivered in. We on the other hand seem to want to have 20 passes before hoofing the ball into the box from deep to one striker 90% of the time. Have really missed Edwards and that shows in the stats. Linkboy13 you are right we do need a box to box CM (was hopeful it was going to be Huws) but more forward thinking in our whole approach. As mentioned by previous posters we need to be very aware of the PPG and where we need to ne just in case...a bit like the Duckworth Lewis in Cricket

Not blaming and individuals but sit back, take a moment, and say to yourself, "Ipswich town are 7th in the third tier of English football" In 40 years of being a town fan, it's something I never dreamt would be possible.
