Fleetwood Game Postponed
Thursday, 31st Dec 2020 13:32

Town’s game at Fleetwood on Monday is now off due to a number of positive Covid-19 tests at the home club.

In a statement on their website the Lancastrian club confirmed that their next two matches, against the Blues and Sunderland a week on Saturday, are now off.

“The club has advised the EFL that it is unable to fulfil the fixtures following several positive COVID-19 tests and the requirement for players and staff to self-isolate as per EFL and government guidance in order to mitigate against the risk of further infection.

“The circumstances surrounding the postponement will now be the subject of an investigation in accordance with EFL regulations.”

Yesterday, it was announced that the match would move from Saturday to Monday to give the five Town players who returned to training on Wednesday longer to recover and get up to speed, but those plans have now been abandoned due to positive the tests in the Fleetwood squad.

The Blues have now had four games in a row postponed due to Covid-19. The away game at Peterborough scheduled for Saturday 19th December, the Boxing Day home match with Northampton, the trip to AFC Wimbledon which was set for Tuesday and now the match at Highbury.

Town last played on Tuesday 15th December when they beat Burton 2-1 at home with their next scheduled match the home game against Swindon on Saturday 9th January, which is being shown live on Sky with a 5.30pm kick-off, the first of 28 league fixtures to be played before the season’s end currently set for Saturday 8th May.

New dates for the postponed fixtures will be announced in due course with the Northampton match already rescheduled for Tuesday 16th February as long as the Cobblers don't make the semi-finals of the Papa John's Trophy.

Jesus.
Surely we need to just have a break again.
Stop it for maybe a month.
Otherwise this season is going to go on and on all year.

EFL are relying on herd-immunity taking effect. ie the day when all EFL players have contracted the disease. Probably won't be long, when social distancing is impossible, before, during and after games.

It's becoming a farce, end the season now and start again after mass vacations have been performed. The clubs aren't making any money anyway to keep operating!

Didn't need Nostradamus to predict that one! I said it would be off just last night!

The end of another season, and fortunately thanks to Paul Lambert we are 7th so won't be involved in the play-offs .

You'd think there would be someone at the club learning from our past.

PFA should pay for the vaccinations for all the players and coaching staff at all clubs ASAP and then season can be played out. If publicised, Good will gesture needs to be made due to players getting priority over others.

MickMillsTash. Why should footballers be prioritised over others just because they are footballers? Are you for real. Footballers health before the general population just so you can watch football. Been supporting ITFC since 60's but football isn't the most important thing in my life, human life is.

MickMillsTash so you think footballers should take priority in getting the vaccine over vulnerable in our society. That sums up up the utter stupidity of some.

WE CAN ALL HOPE BUT WE MUST GET THIS INTO PERSPECTIVE. SOME PLAYERS MUST BE IGNORING THE ADVICE AND NOT TAKING ENOUGH CARE HENCE THE PROBLEM AND HEY AS LONG AS THEY GET THEIR MONEY THEY DON'T GIVE A FIG ESPECIALLY WITH THEIR PAY. WE NEED TO STOP FOR A MONTH WHILE WE ARE IN TIER 4 AND SEE IF THE SITUATION IMPROVES. SOME PEOPLE JUST DON'T CARE, THEY FORGET THE RULES AND BASICALLY DON'T GIVE A T**S, IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY. JUST BEEN TO LOCAL POST OFFICE AND MAN WITH NO MASK BEING SERVED. THATS MY RANT OVER FOR TODAY!!!

Football without fans is pointless.

Still we might win the club with the most covid positive cases competition.

Can't believe this game was ever a serious contender to be played. The EFL snd PL need to get a bloody grip . What arrogance that they should even consider playing football matches when the whole Country is in the grip of CoVid. The whole of their industry really goes live in it's on little bubble doesn't it - do they not even recognise that there are bigger things in life than their sport?

If it takes two years this season must be finished even if it means cancelling the cup competitions. The future of some clubs is very bleak especially those without an owner to keep them afloat . Surely footballers travelling the length and width of the country is not helping the problem.

MickMillsTash I understand that there are no vaccines available on the private market (except those being sold by criminals, which probably aren't vaccines). Therefore the football authorities couldn't vaccinate the players even if they wanted to.

I don't know of any evidence of football players spreading the virus. If their bubbles are maintained properly that shouldn't happen.

Europablue added 16:46 - Jan 1
norfolkbluey almost all the people I know who have got the virus have been following the rules. It isn't a crime to catch a virus, you don't need to stigmatize everyone who gets it.

I'm sure the Chinese would sell EPL/EFL some vaccines, especially with their human rights record, they would just take them off the Uighurs and other persecuted minorities in their country.
Or football could just stop and players learn to wait their bl00dy turn.

so many dead, so much economic damage and disaster, and all a choice of the poor inept UK government, who could have chosen a different safer path through covid 19s pandemic......
